We asked our clinicians for feedback about InteRACT and the following are some of their comments:

"Over the course of a 25 year clinical career, InteRACT was the most rewarding and memorable assignment I have had. The clients were so eager to learn that it really energized the clinical interactions! The relationships developed with the clients and the staff were special and enduring."
- Maureen Merchant, SLP Nova Scotia, 2002

"InteRACT is a tremendous professional and clinical experience. The staff is extremely supportive, knowledgeable and is clearly focused on the best interests and wellbeing of the participants with aphasia and their partners. Working for the InteRACT program gave me a unique opportunity to focus solely and intensely on aphasia. I certainly experienced substantial clinical and personal growth working this closely and intensely with the staff, participants with aphasia and their partners. My understanding of aphasia and the aphasia experience has increased substantially and I feel fortunate to have been able to develop relationships with all those involved in the program."
- Tom Sather, SLP- Mayo Health System, Wisconsin, 2007

"I found the InteRACT program to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I was able to get a better understanding of aphasia in terms of the impact it has on a person's life beyond a clinical setting. I had the opportunity to spent time with the clients and learn more about aphasia within the therapy setting and outside of the therapy room; during meals, walks, playing dominoes, watching tv, shopping together, doing laundry together and sharing ideas, a joke and feelings. I enjoyed getting to know people in the program and working with other professionals who were committed to maximizing a person's communication abilities and learning from others creative means of accessing a person's communication intent. It was positively intense, and intensely positive."
- Charlene Fraser, SLP Ireland, 2003 & 2004

"My participation in the InteRACT Programme has strengthened my clinical skills. I've learned new techniques and treatment options while perfecting familiar routines. The Programme's residential component and holistic approach offers the client an intimate experience. I especially appreciate the individual attention given to the client's personal goals and the emphasis on functionality and community access and participation."
- Tedd Masiongale, SLP Michigan, 2006 & 2007

"What an amazing program. Intensive therapy really, really does work. This program has enriched my clinical experience tenfold, and has had a profound influence on how I work with my current caseload. And it wasn't just the therapy - it was the wonderful communication and teamwork amongst everyone involved that allowed each participant to keep making progress, almost hourly, as well as all the group social activities that supported their improvements outside of the clinic rooms. I would encourage anyone with aphasia to attend this programme. I would encourage every SLP who is interested in aphasia to work in this program."
- Carla Knott, SLP New Zealand, 2005

"InteRACT allowed me a great deal of time (both clinical and informal) with clients and their communication partners. It provided me with valuable insight into participants' daily experiences, and an appreciation of the great attributes that clients and partners brought with them. This benefited me greatly not only in regard to InteRACT clients, but also those I have worked with since. Seeing the clients and their partners meet others with aphasia and share their experiences was very rewarding. Often participants chose to socialize with each other in the evenings and explore Nova Scotia together on weekends.

Clinically, the nature of the program allowed for intensive focus on skills. We worked toward functional, 'real-life' goals, including priorities identified by the clients. The partners' involvement facilitated their skills at supporting the client's communication. InteRACT is 'intensive' for the SLP's too in that it involves busy, full, hard-working days, but it was well worth the great experience for me. Linda Carey Wozniak and Ellina Kostopoulos were always nearby to lend support, expertise, and enthusiasm.

On another note, Nova Scotia is absolutely beautiful, with SO much to do and see - it was a treat to spend time there!"
- Morag McKercher, SLP Saskatchewan, 2002 & 2003
