The first annual Stroke Survivors of Ottawa Conference: Stroke Recovery: Hitting New Heights was held on August 18 & 19, 2006. Debbie Maloney, 2005 InteRACT participant from Newfoundland, was a speaker at the conference. Click here to see Debbie's inspirational speech [WMV].

Debbie was also featured in the 1st Annual Signature Women Calendar sponsored by the Signature Salon of St. John's Newfoundland. The 2007 calendar highlights the accomplishments of women in the community - and Debbie was nominated by her best friend - for her strength and determination in overcoming her challenges with aphasia after her stroke. Debbie was pampered to a day at the spa before the photo shoot. The proceeds from the calendar supported the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Chapter.

Anne Raudsepp Hardy, a 2004 InteRACT participant with aphasia, is a counselor from Kansas City. In summer 2007 she joined the InteRACT team to share her expertise in counseling combined with her first-hand experience with aphasia. Anne presented a motivational speech to program participants, partners and staff about her personal journey with aphasia. She also met with individuals with aphasia and partners to talk about coping with the challenges of aphasia. The feedback about Anne's participation was extremely positive - so we plan to have her return next summer!
